Below are some rare maps showing the Enumeration Districts for Simcoe County and the City of Toronto for the 1891 Census. These are from the Electoral Atlas of 1895 and show the boundaries as established based on the 1891 census. The Enumeration Districts were NOT generally based on county lines, so often townships from adjoining counties can be found in an Enumeration District (as is the case here with Simcoe South which includes townships from both Simcoe and Dufferin Counties). The names here are the names given the Enumeration District, not the County.

The original maps were printed from zinc plates onto paper and then hand-coloured. The Enumeration Officer for each district was supposed to make any changes to the maps and return them to Ottawa. The population count as of 1891 (based on the 1891 census) is written on the bottom left of each page.

This set of six maps is courtesy of KATHIE ORR who found them in at antique dealer in eastern Ontario.
